A letter by an employee of the Warm Springs Indian Agency, Cyrus Walker, to his wife Mary Wheeler Walker. On the second page of the letter, he describes the fate of the children who had been sent from Warm Springs to the Forest Grove Indian School and its successor, Chemawa Indian School, between 1880-1890. "I have been at work making out a list of all the Indian children that have been sent to Forest Grove and Chemawa, when they went, when returned, for what cause, when died of those dead, present place of residence & health." The list itself is not attached, but he does provide a compilation of the figures, e.g. "Died 22. Graduated 8." He says that of the 35 who were originally sent to the Forest Grove Indian School campus, 14 either died at school or died soon after being sent home. Overall, a third of the children who had been sent to Forest Grove and Chemawa up through 1890 died at the school or soon after being sent home.

A letter from Cyrus Walker to his wife, Mary Wheeler Walker. At the time, Cyrus was a clerk and school teacher at the Warm Springs Indian Agency, and his wife and their child were living temporarily in another county. Cyrus describes trying to persuade Native families at Warm Springs to leave their younger children at the on-reservation boarding school. The Native families apparently had been planning to bring their children with them as they took part in seasonal hop-picking work. He reports the words of one Native man in Chinook Jargon mixed with English: "Wake close wawa copa school okok Sun. Okok sure Sunday. Pose tomorrow wawa hear close." (Approximate translation: "Not good to talk about school today. [Maybe?: Let's talk Sunday.] I suppose tommorow we'll talk/hear well enough." The next day, the Native man said that he would go hop-picking and Cyrus thought that there would likely not be many students enrolled in school when it started.

A soundless video recording of a fight over the 'Boxer' mascot of Pacific University in 1968. In the fight, also known as a 'Boxer Toss,' several teams of male students brawl over possession of the mascot, which was a bronze Chinese statue. It was filmed on campus in Trombley Square, between the Washburne University Center, Scott Hall, Marsh Hall and Old College Hall (which has since been moved to a new location). Hundreds of bystanders watch in the background. This brawl was part of a Pacific University tradition that was maintained for decades until the statue disappeared approximately one year after this film was made. It took place on April 18, 1968 and was described in an article, 'The Boxer Rebellion - 1968,' that appeared in the Pacific alumni magazine. The film was likely created from footage collected by the television crews that are described in the article. This video was converted from a 16mm film reel that was marked, 'Color Electro-Print of Boxer Fight,' from the King Film Lab in Portland, Oregon.
